Veteran actor Justus Esiri is dead

Nollywood and the entire Nigerian entertainment industry has once again been thrown into mourning as another veteran actor Justus Esiri has passed away. It is believed Esiri passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2013. No details yet on circumstances leading to his death yet. One of the actor’s sons – the very popular pop singer Sidney ‘Dr SID’ Esiri put up a photo of Esiri on his Twitter avatar and updated his bio as ‘RIP Dad‘. Dr SID did not pick up our calls or reply our text message to confirm the story as at the time of this report. Esiri, a long time actor on Nigerian Television started his acting career in the 70s and is most popular for his role as ‘Headmaster’ in the nationwide series Village Headmaster which aired on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). He was married to his wife Omiete with whom he had six children, one of them being Dentist-turned pop artiste Dr SID.

This weekend, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was the keynote speaker at the Harvard Africa Business Club Conference. The conference is truly a spectacular event calling together dignitaries, professionals, and students from all across the African Diaspora. This is the story of a young boy whose parents were murdered during 2002 riots in Kaduna. He was aged 11 years at the time. His parents, Mr Austine and Mrs Josephine Moses, were missionaries until they met their untimely death. The boy left his house to play football but returned home to see that all his parents had laboured for had been razed down and he would never see his mother and father again. He was taken to London by his uncle almost immediately after the incident. While in London, he began deploying his football skills. Though his parents were murdered, his passion for football was never killed. He played football for his school and later for a local Tandrige League club until Crystal Palace FC approached him. From that point, his career progressed in leaps and bounds. This player played for England's under 16, 17, 19 and 21 teams between 2005 and 2010 scoring 11 goals for England during this period.
